Fictional Civilization Studio
This body of work is from a 5 credit studio course which students take during their 4th year. In this course, students are given the task of creating a fictional civilization together, as a collaborative effort with the entire class. Topics such as politics, sociology, history, and creative writing are covered as we learn world building. This course involves students from industrial design, interior design, and digital design majors, so each knowledge base offers something unique to the production. Industrial designers may specialize in weaponry and tools of the civilization, while interiors may focus on the living spaces of this fictitious race. Digital designers exercise their storytelling skills in creating concept artwork and character designs of these fictional people. At the end of the course, the class presents their work in a mock museum exhibit as though they are archaeologists presenting a lost civilization they discovered.
